The 2011 OLM Triduum Gloria VIII Project

Welcome brothers and sisters in Christ, to your custom built singing tutorial!

This year we will be singing the "Missa de Angelis" as part of our Triduum celebration. This includes the (Gloria, Sanctus and Agnus Dei). The choir will sing the Sanctus and Agnus Dei alone, and the choir will also carry the bulk of the Gloria, but the congregation will join in certain phrases that all have the same melodic fragment. A melodic fragment is just another way of saying 'a piece of a melody'.

It is tradition that when the Gloria is sung on Holy Thursday evening it is sung with the ringing of bells. After the Gloria, the organ is turned off, and the organ is not used again until the Gloria of the Easter Vigil. We will again join in and sing the Gloria that evening also in the same manner.

Please read the instructions below. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. Simply click on my email address below and I can help you. My direct line is also noted if you would like to call me.

Thank you for your time and effort in order to make our Liturgy a Holy and unifying experience for all.

Most Sincerely Yours in Christ,

How The Tutorial Works

Below you will find the music for the Gloria. The priest will intone the Gloria (which is the first phrase). You (the congregation) will sing all the phrases that are boxed in red. These all have a very similar melody, so it will be very easy to sing them.

The choir will sing the entire Gloria including your parts with you, but the choir will sing the remainder of the phrases alone. I have provided a PDF file so that you can download and print the gloria for your use at home. If you would also like to bring it with you to our Holy Thursday and Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday Liturgies, by all means, I encourage you to do so!

Learning Individual (Red Boxed) Phrases

If you click on the title of each phrase in the table below, you will be able to hear and practice each phrase separately. This will facilitate you in learning your parts very quickly.
